The transformation of a 1960's schoolhouse into an elegant yet eclectic, loft home was a creative challenge. We didn't hesitate and jumped in with both feet. We are so happy we did. The idea of converting a schoolhouse into a home really began to take shape when we began decorating hallways with artwork, collectibles and school memorabilia.
The red Vespa acrylic-on-canvas painting was painted by Susie Bleau Lavoie and the picture of Audrey Hepburn on the scooter is from the 1953 film, Roman Holiday.
The hallways were transformed to become an integral part of the home.
The first doorway you see on the left is to the heated 26' x 32' garage & workshop which originally was the Kindergarten classroom.
This photo looks towards the east doors which is our main entrance.
You can see a white door opened on the left, just inside the entrance. That goes into the Main Loft.
The first door on the right in this photo is the large walk-in hall closet.
The Good Humor ice cream vending bicycle was found at a Robeson's Country Store in Gananoque Ontario.
The enlarged 2007 Gene Berg Rally poster is from California.
Not sure who the kids are in the ice cream cooler, or the one headfirst into the rear basket.
What would a school be without a Canadian flag alongside pictures of Sir John A. MacDonald and the Queen.
The original trophy display cabinet was retained and is used to display children's books.
The large schematic drawing you see hung in a black frame, on the other side of the iron gates, is a copy of the original hand-drawn architectural schematic of the school floor plan dated April 1964.
Renewing the hallway was a major undertaking
